What Makes a Good Fit?
Our strongest interest is in well-built, serviceable two-channel components from the classic hi-fi era. Brand, exact model, cosmetic condition, completeness, current demand, and likely service costs all matter.
McIntosh, Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui, and comparable high-quality manufacturers are especially welcome—but this is not an exhaustive list.

Categories We Buy Selectively
Transportation, fragility, restoration cost, storage space, and resale demand can outweigh the value of some equipment.
Speakers
We buy some speakers, but space and transportation requirements mean that we must be selective. Call with the brand, model, condition, and dimensions.
Turntables
Turntables can be fragile and costly to restore. Tonearm, cartridge, dust cover, hinges, suspension, and completeness are important.
Most Newer Gear
We are generally not interested in mass-market black-plastic components from the mid-1990s onward. Some may receive a nominal offer or be accepted as a donation.
AV & Surround Equipment
We generally do not purchase AV receivers, surround processors, or home-theater-in-a-box systems. Their formats and features age much like computers.

Technician Inspection Required
For the highest and most accurate offer, the equipment must be brought to our Richmond store so our technician can inspect and evaluate it. Photos and descriptions are useful for screening, but they cannot confirm full operating condition.
Shipping Is Rarely Practical
We rarely purchase equipment from out of state. Vintage components are vulnerable to shipping damage, and safe packing plus freight costs make most transactions financially practical only for select higher-value pieces.
A Dealer Offer, Not Retail Value
Audio Exchange buys equipment with the intent to inspect, service, inventory, and resell it. Offers must leave room for those costs, risks, overhead, and margin, so sellers should not expect an end-user market price.
What you receive is a faster, simpler sale without listings, marketplace fees, strangers, packing, shipping, returns, or buyer disputes.

Do you buy non-working vintage equipment?
Sometimes. Desirable models can still be of interest, but repair costs, missing parts, corrosion, and cosmetic damage reduce the offer substantially.
Do you buy speakers and turntables?
Selectively. Please call first with the brand, model, condition, dimensions, and photos if available so we can avoid unnecessary transport.
Do you buy AV receivers or surround-sound equipment?
Generally, no. We focus on two-channel stereo equipment and usually do not purchase AV receivers, surround processors, or home-theater systems.
Will your offer equal the price I see online?
No. Online asking prices are not always completed-sale values, and Audio Exchange is purchasing for resale. Our offer must account for testing, service, warranty exposure, overhead, time in inventory, risk, and a reasonable margin.
Can I ship equipment to you from another state?
Only in select cases involving sufficiently valuable equipment. Shipping vintage gear is risky, and the cost of safe packing and freight often makes a transaction impractical. Contact us before shipping anything.
What about an estate or a large collection?
Call before moving everything. A model list and clear photos can help us determine what is of interest and whether an appointment or another approach makes sense.
