The design
The Magico A5 floorstanding loudspeakers are the flagship of the A Series, combining a pure beryllium tweeter, a dedicated midrange and three bass drivers in a sealed aluminum enclosure. This three-way, five-driver design offers substantial bass capability while keeping voices and instruments on a separate midrange transducer.
The A5 is a passive speaker and requires an external amplifier suited to a 4-ohm load. Consider room size, listening distance and preferred volume alongside amplifier wattage. At 180 pounds per speaker, delivery access and final positioning also deserve careful planning. Wall distance and listening position remain important even with a sealed cabinet.
The A5 cabinet is constructed from 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, with extensive internal bracing and damping to control unwanted resonances. Its sealed design has no bass-reflex port. The goal is a rigid foundation that allows the drivers to reproduce the recording with less coloration from the surrounding structure.
The triple-woofer array uses graphene-layered carbon-fiber sandwich cones designed to balance stiffness, low mass and damping. Each bass driver incorporates a 5-inch titanium voice coil, a large copper cap and half an inch of linear excursion.
The 5-inch midrange uses a graphene carbon-fiber sandwich cone and a foam surround. A dedicated internal chamber isolates it from the pressure generated by the bass drivers, helping preserve the clarity of vocals and instruments.
