The design
The Magico S5 2024 floorstanding loudspeakers combine a sculpted aluminum enclosure with diamond-coated beryllium and Gen 8 Nano-Tec drivers. This current-generation S5 is a three-way, four-driver design, offering a substantial step up in scale within Magico’s S Series.
The S5 2024 replaces the S5 Mk II with a redesigned cabinet and new drivers. Its enclosure has 31% more internal volume than the previous version, supporting deeper bass extension while maintaining 88 dB sensitivity. A three-footer support system uses constrained-layer damping to control vibration at the speaker’s foundation.
The S5 requires an external amplifier suited to a 4-ohm loudspeaker load. Amplifier choice should account for your room, listening distance and preferred volume alongside its rated power. At 262 pounds per speaker, delivery access and final positioning also deserve careful planning.
Curved aluminum surfaces and a shaped front baffle help reduce diffraction and internal resonances. Magico used a Polytec Laser Vibrometer to measure cabinet-panel movement and a Klippel Near-Field Scanner to evaluate acoustic output around the speaker. Those measurements guide the cabinet design and driver integration toward lower coloration.
The 28mm tweeter draws on Magico’s M Series technology. A diamond coating strengthens its lightweight beryllium diaphragm, while a neodymium motor and refined rear chamber help control distortion. The goal is clear reproduction of fine treble detail without the tweeter adding its own character.
A dedicated 6-inch midrange and two 10-inch bass drivers use aluminum-honeycomb cones with graphene-reinforced carbon-fiber skins. This sandwich construction balances rigidity, low weight and damping. The midrange has a 3-inch titanium voice coil; each woofer uses a 5-inch titanium voice coil and third-generation chassis.
