The Art of Natural Sound

Italian craftsmanship, acoustic research, and expressive musicality come together in a loudspeaker designed to live as beautifully as it performs.

The Sonus faber Concertino G4 bookshelf speakers bring one of the Italian manufacturer’s most recognizable compact designs into the modern Heritage Collection. Inspired by the original Concertino introduced in 1994, this fourth-generation model combines solid walnut, cork and plant-based leather with a carefully integrated two-way driver system. The result is a high-end bookshelf speaker designed for natural tonal balance, precise imaging and an involving sense of musical space.

Sold as a pair. Matching Sonus faber Iron Stands are sold separately.

A Sonus faber Classic Reimagined

The Concertino G4 retains the trapezoidal cabinet shape associated with earlier generations while substantially updating its materials and internal construction. It occupies a distinctive place within the Sonus faber Heritage Collection: more compact and approachable than the larger Amator models, but built with the same emphasis on natural materials, Italian design and long-term craftsmanship.

At only 12.4 inches tall, the Concertino G4 offers a relatively compact footprint without presenting itself as a conventional small speaker. Each enclosure weighs 14.5 pounds and incorporates a substantial solid-walnut structure intended to control unwanted cabinet movement.

Solid Walnut, Cork and Plant-Based Leather

The cabinet’s ribbed solid-walnut side walls add rigidity without relying entirely on conventional internal bracing. At the center of the enclosure is a specially formed cork chassis surrounding the drivers. Cork’s natural acoustic properties help limit internal resonances while reducing the amount of traditional damping material required inside the cabinet.

The front baffle and exposed cork structure are covered in a plant-based leather alternative developed by Ohoskin from Sicilian orange and prickly-pear byproducts. Black upholstery, solid walnut and brass accents give the Concertino G4 the warm, furniture-grade appearance expected from a Sonus faber Heritage speaker.

Two-Way Driver System with Phase-Coherent Crossover

The Concertino G4 uses a 1.1-inch DAD™ Arrow Point tweeter paired with a 5.25-inch ferrite-magnet midwoofer. The paper-pulp midwoofer is engineered to reproduce vocals and instruments with the natural character central to Sonus faber’s sound philosophy, while the Damped Apex Dome tweeter extends the response through 25 kHz.

A simplified phase-coherent crossover operates at 1.7 kHz. By improving phase alignment between the drivers, the crossover helps the Concertino produce a more stable, clearly defined and three-dimensional stereo image.

Rear-Vented Cabinet and Amplifier Matching

The rear-facing reflex port reduces turbulence around the front baffle and contributes to a rated frequency response of 60 Hz to 25,000 Hz. Because the port vents from the back, the speakers should be given appropriate space from the wall and adjusted carefully during setup.

With an 85 dB sensitivity rating and 4-ohm nominal impedance, the Concertino G4 benefits from a capable amplifier that remains comfortable driving a 4-ohm load. Sonus faber recommends between 30 and 150 watts per channel. Quality and current delivery will generally be more important than choosing an amplifier based solely on its advertised wattage.

The Concertino provides controlled and articulate bass for its cabinet size, but listeners seeking true full-range low-frequency extension may wish to pair it with a properly integrated subwoofer.
