The Sonus faber Electa Amator III bookshelf speakers are a handcrafted two-way design from the Heritage Collection, created to celebrate Sonus faber’s 35th anniversary. Building on the original Electa Amator of 1987 and Electa Amator II of 1997, this third generation combines a 28 mm DAD™ tweeter, a dedicated 180 mm cellulose-pulp midwoofer and premium natural materials in a compact stand-mount loudspeaker.
Sold as a pair. Dedicated Sonus faber Carrara Stands are sold separately.
The Third Generation of a Sonus faber Icon
Electa Amator III preserves the simple two-way architecture and musical character that made its predecessors important to Sonus faber’s international reputation. Rather than reproducing an earlier design, it applies modern driver technology and crossover engineering to the proportions, materials and visual language of the original Amator speakers.
Each pair is handmade in Vicenza, Italy. At 14.8 inches tall and 27.6 pounds per speaker, Electa Amator III is compact enough for a focused two-channel system while retaining the substantial construction expected from the Sonus faber Heritage Collection.
Solid Walnut, Leather and Natural Marble
The cabinet is constructed from solid walnut with softly rounded edges, a hand-applied leather front baffle and rear panel, natural marble and carefully integrated metal accents. A marble base is joined to the wooden enclosure through a metal insert, adding mass and creating a visually distinctive transition between the materials.
Walnut and Graphite finishes allow the speaker to take on either a warmer, traditional appearance or a darker contemporary character. Because genuine wood and natural stone are used, grain patterns and marble veining will vary slightly from pair to pair.
DAD™ Tweeter and Cellulose-Pulp Midwoofer
High frequencies are reproduced by Sonus faber’s 28 mm H28 XTR-04 soft-dome tweeter. Its DAD™—Damped Apex Dome—technology locally controls movement at the apex of the diaphragm, helping reduce unwanted resonance while preserving the smooth extension of a silk dome. A solid-wood rear acoustic chamber is visible through the reflex opening and contributes to the tweeter’s controlled response.
A dedicated 180 mm MW18 XTR-04 midwoofer uses a traditional cellulose-pulp cone. This organic diaphragm is central to Sonus faber’s Natural Sound philosophy, providing the midrange body and tonal texture that allow voices and acoustic instruments to sound convincing without sacrificing bass weight.
The drivers are integrated at 2.5 kHz through a crossover built with premium hi-fi components. Separate high-frequency and mid/bass binding posts provide flexible system connectivity.
Substantial Bass from a Compact Stand-Mount Speaker
Electa Amator III is rated from 40 Hz to 35,000 Hz, giving it considerably deeper extension than its cabinet dimensions might suggest. The vented enclosure supports a fuller presentation while retaining the imaging precision and room flexibility associated with a high-end bookshelf speaker.
With 88 dB sensitivity and a nominal 4-ohm impedance, Electa Amator III should be paired with an amplifier that is comfortable driving a 4-ohm loudspeaker. Sonus faber recommends 35 to 125 watts per channel with an undistorted signal. Current delivery and amplifier quality are more important than selecting an amplifier by wattage alone.
Dedicated Carrara Stands
The optional Carrara Stands were designed specifically for Electa Amator III. Their damped aluminum columns, marble bases, brass details and floor spikes provide a stable platform while continuing the speaker’s material and visual design. The speakers and stands are sold separately.
