Sonus Faber Il Cremonese ex3me Floorstanding Speakers
The Sonus Faber Il Cremonese ex3me is a reference-level 3.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker created by combining the celebrated architecture of Il Cremonese with advanced technology developed for Sonus faber’s Ex3ma anniversary concept. Designed around a goal of exceptional neutrality, transparency, and dynamic precision, ex3me preserves the natural musical character associated with Sonus faber while extending resolution at both ends of the frequency spectrum.
With its Diamond-Like Carbon-treated Beryllium tweeter, dedicated natural-fiber midrange, dual woofers, and side-firing nanocarbon infra-woofers, Il Cremonese ex3me is engineered for systems where tonal accuracy, scale, imaging, and low-level detail are equally important. Its 92 dB sensitivity and recommended amplifier range of 100 to 800 watts allow it to partner with a wide selection of high-performance electronics, provided the amplifier is stable into its 4-ohm nominal impedance.
Absolute Neutrality with the Voice of Sonus Faber
Il Cremonese ex3me was developed to reproduce the musical signal with minimal resonance, coloration, or editorial character. Sonus faber describes the design as suitable not only for the finest home listening systems but also as an extremely high-performance professional studio monitor. The speaker retains the original model’s midrange and woofer foundations while introducing new high-frequency and infra-low-frequency technologies derived from the Ex3ma project.
Diamond-Like Carbon Beryllium Tweeter
A 30 mm Beryllium dome tweeter provides extremely fast transient response, fine microdynamic detail, and extended high-frequency reproduction. Sonus faber applies a Diamond-Like Carbon treatment to the Beryllium diaphragm, increasing rigidity and moving its resonant behavior farther outside the audible range while reducing the metallic coloration sometimes associated with untreated Beryllium designs.
The tweeter is driven by a powerful neodymium motor system and uses a CNC-machined aluminum-alloy rear decompression chamber with an acoustic labyrinth designed without parallel surfaces.
Natural Midrange and Independent Woofer Chambers
The dedicated 180 mm midrange preserves the recognizable “Voice of Sonus faber.” Its diaphragm uses an air-dried, non-pressed blend of cellulose pulp and other natural fibers to deliver articulate vocals, realistic instrumental texture, and a smooth transition into the high frequencies.
Two 180 mm woofers operate in an independent, acoustically controlled enclosure with Stealth Reflex loading. Their sandwich diaphragms balance rigidity, low mass, and speed to maintain tonal continuity with the midrange while producing clean and controlled bass.
Side-Firing Nanocarbon Infra-Woofers
Two 220 mm side-firing infra-woofers extend low-frequency performance to a specified 25 Hz. Their tri-laminated diaphragms combine nanocarbon fiber with a Nomex honeycomb core for exceptional structural rigidity and resistance to flexing, even at high excursion. Each infra-woofer operates in its own acoustically controlled chamber with a dedicated Stealth Reflex duct.
Redesigned Paracross Crossover Network
The mid-high crossover network was redesigned specifically to integrate the DLC Beryllium tweeter with the natural-fiber midrange. Premium non-inductive resistors and air-core inductors are used throughout. Sonus faber’s Paracross Topology™ makes the network less sensitive to radio-frequency interference, helping lower the noise floor and preserve low-level information.
Rhomboidal Diamond Cabinet
Il Cremonese ex3me retains the distinctive five-sided Rhomboidal Diamond Design of the original model. The non-parallel cabinet walls help suppress standing waves and internal reflections, while solid billet-aluminum Damper Shelves at the top and bottom increase rigidity and reduce unwanted structural resonance. The enclosure is finished in classic Red Violin high-gloss wood with black leather and aluminum detailing.
Sonus faber’s ZVT decoupling system mechanically interfaces the speaker with the floor to improve stability and reduce the transfer of unwanted vibration.
