The Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 floorstanding speakers deliver the natural tonal character, refined craftsmanship, and expressive presentation of the Sonetto G2 collection in its most compact floorstanding design.
Despite its slender cabinet, the Sonetto III G2 combines a 1.1-inch D.A.D. Arrow Point tweeter, one 6.5-inch midwoofer, and one dedicated 6.5-inch woofer in a sophisticated 2.5-way configuration. Separate internal chambers and dual reflex systems help the speaker produce substantial, controlled bass while preserving clarity through the midrange and treble.
The Sonetto III G2 is designed for listeners who want the greater scale and bass authority of a floorstanding speaker without introducing an oversized cabinet into a small or medium-sized room.
The Sonetto III G2 is voiced to present music with believable tone, natural vocal weight, and a smooth sense of integration from bass through treble. It provides substantial detail without pulling individual sounds unnaturally away from the musical performance.
Voices are one of the speaker’s strongest qualities. The dedicated midwoofer reproduces singers and acoustic instruments with body, texture, and clear articulation, helping recordings sound expressive without becoming overly forward or clinical.
High frequencies remain composed and controlled, even as playback levels increase. The D.A.D. tweeter can reveal fine detail and recording ambience without introducing the sharp or brittle character sometimes associated with aggressively voiced loudspeakers.
The overall balance is smooth, resolving, and suitable for extended listening. The Sonetto III G2 works especially well for vocals, jazz, classical music, acoustic recordings, blues, rock, and other music where tonal character and rhythmic control are equally important.
The Sonetto III G2 uses one 6.5-inch midwoofer and one separate 6.5-inch woofer rather than asking two identical drivers to reproduce the same frequency range.
The upper driver handles the midrange and bass, while the lower woofer reinforces the lowest frequencies. This 2.5-way arrangement adds bass authority and dynamic scale without introducing a separate midrange-to-woofer crossover within the critical vocal range.
With a rated low-frequency response of 38Hz, the Sonetto III G2 can reproduce bass guitar, drums, piano, and orchestral material with convincing depth and weight in a small or medium-sized room.
Bass is intended to sound controlled and textured rather than artificially enlarged. Most two-channel music systems will not automatically require a subwoofer, although one may still be beneficial for home theater, electronic sub-bass, pipe organ, or listeners seeking substantial output below 40Hz.
The Sonetto G2 collection introduces a distinctive flower-pattern suspension first developed for Sonus Faber’s flagship Suprema system. The irregular shape is designed to control the suspension’s behavior and reduce unwanted resonances more effectively than a conventional symmetrical surround.
Both 6.5-inch drivers use custom die-cast organic baskets developed by the Sonus Faber DesignLab. Aluminum demodulation rings help control magnetic behavior within the driver motors, supporting cleaner reproduction and lower distortion.
The midwoofer and woofer use paper-based diaphragms selected for their balance of low mass, stiffness, natural damping, and tonal character.
High frequencies are reproduced by a 1.1-inch D.A.D., or Damped Apex Dome, Arrow Point tweeter. The soft-dome diaphragm is locally restrained at its apex to control unwanted motion and extend useful high-frequency performance.
A copper shorting ring within the tweeter motor helps reduce distortion and stabilize its behavior. The tweeter also uses a closed motor system so that pressure and reflections created by the midwoofer do not interfere with its operation.
The result is a smooth, extended upper range capable of reproducing detail, harmonic texture, and spatial information without making the speaker sound artificially bright.
The Sonetto III G2 divides the cabinet into separate acoustic sections. The tweeter and midwoofer operate within a rear-vented enclosure, while the dedicated woofer occupies its own down-vented chamber.
Isolating the woofer reduces the amount of pressure and vibration reaching the midwoofer and tweeter. This helps preserve midrange clarity when the lower driver is producing substantial bass.
The woofer’s reflex port vents downward toward the concrete base. The fixed spacing between the port and base creates a consistent loading surface while making the bass system less dependent on the exact distance from the rear wall than a conventional rear-facing woofer port.
The Sonetto III G2 uses the curved lute-shaped cabinet associated with many Sonus Faber loudspeakers. The absence of broad parallel sidewalls helps reduce internal standing waves and increases structural rigidity.
The tapered rear profile also gives the speaker a more graceful visual presence than a conventional rectangular tower. Its relatively narrow front baffle helps reduce diffraction around the drivers and makes the speaker easier to incorporate into a living room.
A newly designed concrete base provides a stable foundation for the tall, narrow cabinet. Its mass helps lower the speaker’s center of gravity and resist movement caused by the drivers.
The base also forms the fixed boundary beneath the down-firing woofer port, maintaining the intended clearance regardless of whether the speaker is installed on carpet, hardwood, or tile.
Both rounded feet and sharper spikes are supplied for different flooring situations. Use appropriate floor protectors when installing the speakers on hardwood, tile, or another delicate surface.
The Sonetto III G2 is especially well suited to small and medium-sized rooms where a larger floorstanding model may produce excessive bass or dominate the available space.
Begin with approximately 18 to 30 inches between the rear of the cabinet and the wall. The down-firing woofer port gives the speaker useful flexibility, although the rear-vented midwoofer enclosure still benefits from some breathing room.
Position the speakers and main listening seat in a roughly equal-sided triangle. A modest amount of inward toe-in will normally improve center-image focus and vocal placement.
Start with the speaker axes crossing slightly behind the listening position. Increase toe-in if the center image lacks focus, or reduce it if the soundstage becomes too narrow.
The Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 has a sensitivity rating of 88dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. Sonus Faber recommends between 50 and 280 watts per channel of clean, undistorted amplifier power.
The speaker does not require extreme wattage, but it should be paired with an integrated amplifier, receiver, or power amplifier that is comfortable driving a 4-ohm load.
For most small and medium-sized rooms, a quality amplifier producing approximately 75 to 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms is a sensible starting range. Greater power and current capability may be useful for larger rooms, longer listening distances, or sustained high-volume playback.
The Sonetto III G2 can partner successfully with both solid-state and appropriately capable tube amplification. Amplifier quality, current delivery, and control are more important than selecting an amplifier solely by its advertised maximum wattage.
The Sonetto III G2 is the more compact floorstanding model. Its 2.5-way driver arrangement, narrow cabinet, and controlled bass make it particularly suitable for smaller rooms and installations where space is limited.
The Sonetto V G2 is a larger three-way loudspeaker with a dedicated midrange section and greater low-frequency capability. It is generally the stronger choice for a larger room, longer listening distances, or listeners seeking more scale and dynamic headroom.
Choose the Sonetto III G2 when room compatibility, visual restraint, and a balanced full-range presentation are the priorities. Choose the Sonetto V G2 when deeper bass and greater output justify the larger cabinet and additional investment.
In a two-channel system, the Sonetto III G2 provides enough bass extension and dynamic capability to serve as a complete primary loudspeaker without automatically requiring a subwoofer.
It is suitable for vinyl playback, high-resolution streaming, CD playback, and other quality sources. Its balanced tonal character also allows it to work with a broad range of amplification and musical styles.
The speakers can also serve as the front left and right channels in a Sonetto home theater. Pairing them with a matching Sonetto center speaker helps preserve tonal consistency across dialogue, music, and front-stage effects.
A powered subwoofer remains recommended for home theater systems where dedicated low-frequency effects and substantial output below 40Hz are priorities.
The Sonetto III G2 combines a curved wood cabinet with leather detailing and a concrete base. These materials give the speaker a furniture-like appearance while serving practical acoustic and structural functions.
Available standard finishes include:
A matte-white Sonetto limited edition may also be available separately, subject to current production and dealer availability.
Natural woodgrain will vary slightly from one cabinet to another. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, excessive heat, and high humidity to help preserve the veneer and leather surfaces.
