I had my Thorens TD-124 restored and needed a phono preamp because my Yamaha receiver is too new to have a phone input. I chose this one because, well, it has the Thorens name on it. Although I’m sure that it was intended for the newer Thorens turntables, it works wonderfully with my vintage one with a Shure MD-7 cartridge. Not ever having heard this tonearm and cartridge through any other preamp, I can’t say whether it is better or worse than any other, but to my ears, it sounds marvelous. That’s what counts, isn't it? At less than $200, the price is good, too. Shipping was quick.
