Barney Wilen - Jazz sur Seine

Experience the Timeless Elegance of Barney Wilen's "Jazz sur Seine"

Immerse yourself in the sophisticated world of jazz with Barney Wilen's "Jazz sur Seine," a remarkable album recorded in Paris on February 13 and 14, 1958. This reissued masterpiece brings together the youthful brilliance of tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen with the seasoned expertise of Milt Jackson, Percy Heath, and Kenny Clarke, all members of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

A Historic Jazz Collaboration

At just 21 years old, Barney Wilen exhibits a surprising maturity and confidence, interpreting compositions by Django Reinhardt, his French contemporaries, and his own works. Notably, this session features Milt Jackson exclusively on piano, offering a more reserved but equally compelling performance compared to his usual vibes. The album also includes percussionist Gana M’Bow, adding an exotic touch to tracks like "Swing 39" and "Minor Swing."
