McIntosh Laboratory

Built for a lifetime of listening

Iconic design, enduring engineering, and system-level performance come together in a component intended to anchor a serious music or cinema system.

McIntosh MC2301: 300-Watt Vacuum Tube Monoblock Power

The McIntosh MC2301 vacuum tube monoblock amplifier combines substantial output power with the dimensional, natural presentation associated with high-performance tube amplification. Rated at 300 watts into 2, 4, or 8 ohms, it is designed to control demanding loudspeakers while preserving musical texture, scale, and dynamic impact.

Please note: The MC2301 is a single-channel monoblock amplifier sold individually. A conventional two-channel stereo system requires two MC2301 amplifiers.

As the first McIntosh vacuum tube amplifier to incorporate a Quad Balanced circuit design, the MC2301 is engineered to cancel noise and distortion before they reach the loudspeaker. Its patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer makes the full rated output available across multiple speaker impedances, allowing the amplifier to deliver consistent performance with a wide range of premium loudspeakers.

Key Features

  • 300 watts from one vacuum tube channel
  • Full rated power into 2, 4, or 8 ohm loudspeakers
  • Quad Balanced circuit design for reduced noise and distortion
  • Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer
  • Sentry Monitor™ protection with automatic reset
  • Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs
  • McIntosh Power Control for coordinated system operation
  • Illuminated blue power-output meter with meter-light control
  • Open polished stainless-steel chassis with visible vacuum tubes
  • Sold individually for mono, stereo, or multi-amplifier system design

300 Watts for Demanding Loudspeakers

Many tube amplifiers prioritize finesse but offer limited output. The MC2301 is designed to provide both. Its 300-watt output gives it the headroom needed for large listening rooms, wide dynamic swings, and loudspeakers that require substantial current and control. Because the full rated power is available from the dedicated 2-, 4-, and 8-ohm outputs, the amplifier can be matched correctly to a broad range of speaker designs.

In a stereo system, one MC2301 powers the left speaker and a second powers the right. This dedicated-channel approach provides each loudspeaker with its own amplifier and power supply, supporting strong channel separation and effortless musical scale.

Quad Balanced Vacuum Tube Design

The MC2301 was the first McIntosh tube amplifier to use the company’s Quad Balanced architecture. The design combines two complete amplifier sections and uses their opposing behavior to cancel much of the noise and distortion generated within the circuit. The result is the tonal richness and spatial presentation listeners seek from vacuum tubes, paired with the low-noise performance expected from a reference McIntosh system.

Unity Coupled Circuit Output Transformer

McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer is central to the MC2301 design. It couples the vacuum tube output stage to the loudspeaker while allowing the amplifier to deliver its complete 300-watt rating into 2-, 4-, or 8-ohm loads. This helps maintain consistent performance and gives system designers greater freedom when matching the amplifier with different loudspeakers.

Sentry Monitor Protection

Sentry Monitor™ provides fuse-less short-circuit protection for the output stage. If operating current exceeds a safe level, the protection circuit temporarily disengages the output stage and automatically restores operation when conditions return to normal. This protection is designed to safeguard the amplifier without placing a conventional fuse directly in the signal path.

Balanced and Unbalanced System Integration

Both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs are provided, making the MC2301 compatible with a wide variety of preamplifiers and system layouts. McIntosh Power Control allows compatible components to power on and off together, while the selectable meter illumination lets the amplifier’s visual presentation be adjusted for the listening environment.

Classic McIntosh Presentation

The MC2301 presents its vacuum tube output stage openly around the signature illuminated blue wattmeter. A black glass front panel, brushed aluminum handles, polished stainless-steel chassis, and visible tube glow give the amplifier the unmistakable appearance of a flagship McIntosh component.
