The right McIntosh turntable depends on whether you want a dedicated source or an integrated music system, the cartridge and phono-stage combination, record-speed requirements, isolation and furniture, setup expectations, and the rest of the system it will feed.
The MT2, MT5, and MT10 are dedicated turntables that feed a separate phono stage and audio system. The MTI100 incorporates its own phono stage, preamplification, power amplification, source inputs, and speaker outputs.
Moving-magnet and low-output moving-coil cartridges require different gain and loading. Confirm the cartridge, phono input, cabling, and system gain together before choosing the turntable.
Furniture rigidity, floor construction, speaker proximity, acoustic feedback, leveling, ventilation, lid clearance, and cable routing can materially affect both performance and daily use.
Tracking force, anti-skate, cartridge alignment, tonearm height, platter speed, leveling, and phono-stage settings should be checked as a complete setup rather than assumed from the factory configuration.

The MT5 adds a magnetically suspended illuminated platter, an upgraded moving-magnet cartridge, and 78 rpm playback. The MT10 is the reference dedicated model with a low-output moving-coil cartridge, electronic speed control, and an illuminated speed meter. The MTI100 is an integrated music system with its own phono stage, preamplifier, power amplifier, source inputs, and speaker outputs.
The MT2 and MT5 require a compatible moving-magnet phono input or external MM phono preamplifier. The MT10 requires a compatible low-output moving-coil phono input or external MC phono preamplifier. The MTI100 includes its own shielded phono stage as part of the integrated system.
Each model is supplied with a cartridge appropriate to its design. Final setup should still confirm alignment, tracking force, anti-skate, tonearm geometry where adjustable, and the correct phono-stage settings before serious listening.
