The McIntosh MT2 Precision Turntable brings McIntosh engineering and visual design to a dedicated high-performance vinyl source. Its belt-drive system, substantial POM platter, precision tonearm bearings, resonance-controlled plinth and factory-installed Sumiko Moonstone moving-magnet cartridge are designed to make the MT2 approachable to set up while preserving the adjustment capability expected from a serious audiophile turntable.
Please note: The MT2 does not include a built-in phono preamplifier. It must be connected to a compatible moving-magnet phono input or an external phono preamp, followed by amplification and speakers.
McIntosh Vinyl Playback, Ready for Your System
The MT2 plays both 33-1/3 and 45 rpm records. A servo-controlled DC motor is mechanically decoupled from the chassis and powered by an external voltage-stabilized supply, helping isolate the stylus and record from motor vibration. Subtle green illumination beneath the platter and along the plinth edges visually connects the turntable with the classic McIntosh aesthetic.
Sumiko Moonstone Moving-Magnet Cartridge Included
The current MT2 is supplied with a Sumiko Moonstone moving-magnet cartridge. Its 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical diamond stylus, 3.0mV output and recommended 47k-ohm loading make it compatible with standard moving-magnet phono inputs. The cartridge is installed as part of the MT2 package, reducing the amount of setup required before playback.
Heavy POM Platter and Resonance-Controlled Plinth
The belt-driven outer platter is made from dynamically balanced polyoxymethylene and measures more than one inch thick. Its mass provides flywheel action for stable rotation while helping resist and absorb external vibration. A CNC-machined aluminum inner platter rotates on a polished and tempered steel shaft inside a sintered-bronze bushing.
The layered plinth combines a resonance-optimized compressed-wood base with black lacquer and acrylic upper plates. The motor is isolated from this structure to reduce mechanical interference with the record, platter and cartridge.
Precision Dural-Aluminum Tonearm
The lightweight, rigid dural-aluminum tonearm uses ceramic vertical bearing surfaces with damping fluid and a gimballed sapphire horizontal bearing. Vertical tracking angle, anti-skate and azimuth are adjustable, allowing the arm and cartridge alignment to be refined during professional setup.

Professional Setup and System Matching
Turntable performance depends on cartridge alignment, tracking force, anti-skate, tonearm height, isolation and phono-stage compatibility. Audio Exchange can help confirm system matching and coordinate setup with your existing preamplifier, integrated amplifier or external phono stage.
