McIntosh MI1250: 12-Channel Power for Whole-House Audio
The McIntosh MI1250 12-channel digital power amplifier is designed to deliver clean, reliable music playback throughout a professionally installed multi-room audio system. Twelve independent amplifier channels provide 50 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers or 90 watts per channel into 4-ohm speakers, giving an installer the flexibility to power up to six stereo listening zones from a single compact component.
Closed-loop digital switching amplifier technology combines high efficiency with robust power supplies, allowing the MI1250 to operate quietly without cooling fans. Its included removable rack ears make it suitable for a standard 2U equipment rack, while its understated black glass front panel maintains the unmistakable McIntosh appearance.

Six Stereo Zones from One Amplifier
With twelve available channels, the MI1250 can power as many as six conventional stereo zones from a single chassis. It is well suited to distributed audio systems serving kitchens, bedrooms, offices, patios, and other secondary listening areas where dependable performance, efficient rack usage, and centralized control are essential.
Each channel includes its own unbalanced input and volume adjustment, allowing an installer to balance output levels for different rooms, speaker sensitivities, and cable runs. Channel-summing controls can also distribute mono audio where stereo playback is unnecessary or impractical.
Bussable Inputs for Flexible System Design
The MI1250 includes BUS inputs and outputs that make it easier to route the same stereo source to multiple channel pairs or expand a larger distributed audio installation across more than one amplifier. Coaxial and optical digital audio inputs can also be used with the bus system, reducing the need for additional source-conversion hardware in compatible installations.
Individual channel inputs remain available when separate zone outputs are supplied by a multi-zone preamplifier or audio matrix. This combination of local inputs, bussing, and channel summing gives integrators the flexibility to design the amplifier around the needs of the home rather than forcing every room into the same configuration.
Quiet, Efficient Class D Operation
The MI1250 uses highly efficient closed-loop digital switching amplifiers and does not require noisy cooling fans during normal operation. Its 2U rack height conserves valuable equipment-space while the included removable rack ears allow either rack-mounted or shelf-based installation.
Multi-color front-panel LEDs display the operating status of each channel, giving installers and system owners a quick visual indication of amplifier activity and protection conditions.
McIntosh Protection and Power Control
McIntosh Power Guard® monitors the output signal and helps prevent clipping from overdriving connected speakers. Sentry Monitor™ protects the amplifier against short-circuit conditions by disengaging the output stage before current reaches unsafe levels and automatically restoring operation after conditions return to normal.
Automatic signal sensing can turn the amplifier on when an input signal is detected and place it into standby after an adjustable period without a signal. McIntosh Power Control connections also support coordinated operation with compatible components through 12-volt triggering.
Designed for Professional Custom Installation
The rear panel provides unbalanced analog inputs, BUS connections, coaxial and optical digital inputs, individual level controls, and compact 2-pole Phoenix-style speaker terminals. These installer-focused connections help keep a dense multi-zone equipment rack organized while providing access to the adjustments needed during system commissioning.
