McIntosh MX124: Reference 13.4-Channel Home Theater Processing
The McIntosh MX124 A/V Processor is designed to serve as the control center of a reference-grade private cinema. Its 13.4-channel processing platform combines immersive surround sound, four-subwoofer management, advanced room correction, 8K video switching, high-resolution music streaming, and professional integration features in one unmistakably McIntosh component.
With support for theater layouts up to 7.4.6 or 9.4.4, the MX124 gives system designers the flexibility to build a deeply immersive Dolby Atmos or DTS:X Pro environment while independently managing as many as four subwoofers. It is equally capable as a premium two-channel and multi-zone music hub, making it a strong foundation for sophisticated home entertainment systems.

Immersive Surround Sound with Four-Subwoofer Control
The MX124 processes 13 main audio channels and provides four dedicated subwoofer outputs, supporting premium speaker configurations such as 7.4.6 and 9.4.4. This expanded architecture allows a properly designed theater to create precise overhead effects, seamless movement around the room, and more even low-frequency coverage across multiple seating positions.
Nine premium 32-bit digital-to-analog converters support detailed, dynamic playback across the entire system. The MX124 decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Sony 360 Reality Audio, and MPEG-H Audio, while IMAX Enhanced compatibility supports carefully mastered cinematic content.
Dirac Live Bass Control and Audyssey Room Correction
Every room changes the way a system sounds. The MX124 includes licenses for both Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control, allowing installers to address timing, frequency-response, imaging, and bass-integration problems created by the listening space. Dirac Live Bass Control coordinates the interaction between the main speakers and as many as four subwoofers for tighter, more consistent bass throughout the room.
Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is also included, along with Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume, and LFC. Owners and installers can select the calibration platform that best suits the room, system, and preferred workflow. A calibration microphone and full-size metal microphone stand are included.
8K HDMI Connectivity for Modern Home Theater
Seven HDMI inputs provide extensive source connectivity, while three HDMI outputs support a primary display system and an independent second video zone. The main HDMI path supports 8K video at 60Hz and 4K video at 120Hz, making the MX124 suitable for premium projectors, large-format televisions, media servers, disc players, streaming devices, and current gaming systems.
Video compatibility includes Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, HDCP 2.3, Rec. 2020, 4:4:4 color spacing, Dynamic Lip-sync, 3D passthrough, Auto Low Latency Mode, Quick Frame Transport, and Variable Refresh Rate. One HDMI output supports eARC for compatible televisions.
High-Resolution Music Streaming and Analog Sources
The MX124 is not limited to movie playback. It supports music streaming at resolutions up to 32-bit/192kHz through Apple AirPlay, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, and Roon. Bluetooth connectivity is included, along with a Bluetooth transmitter for private listening through compatible wireless headphones.
Traditional sources are well supported with one balanced stereo input and eight unbalanced stereo inputs, including a moving-magnet phono input. Two coaxial and two optical digital inputs accommodate additional music and video sources, while dedicated analog outputs serve two extra listening zones.
Flexible Outputs and Professional System Integration
The MX124 provides 11.4 balanced outputs and 15.4 unbalanced outputs, giving system designers substantial flexibility when pairing it with McIntosh power amplifiers and complex speaker layouts. Per-speaker crossover adjustment, a nine-band equalizer, tone controls, and DSP bypass provide additional system-tuning options.
For custom installations, setup can be completed through a web interface, with support for preconfiguration, configuration-file upload, and backup and restore. RS232 and IP control are available, and Connects with Control4 certification with Simple Device Discovery Protocol helps streamline integration into compatible automation systems.
Classic McIntosh Design
The MX124 presents its extensive processing capabilities in the familiar McIntosh aesthetic, including a black glass front panel, illuminated logo, rotary controls, and aluminum end caps. It is built to complement McIntosh amplifiers and other components in both equipment racks and traditional listening-room installations.
