I'm not fond of this cartridge. Among many other cartridges I own, I have the Ortofon Blue on one of five decks. I thought the Red would sound pretty close, but it doesn't. The blue has always been a smooth operator. This Red though is bright sounding and it sure doesn't have a sound signature like the Blue or the current cartridge I bought it to replace which is a Stanton 681 EEE. I put the 681 back on the arm and the Red is sitting all alone by itself over on a table in another room. I'm not sure what to do with it. I purchased a 50 dollar Ortofon head shell for it too and I guess I made a big mistake trying this cartridge. My option in my head is to purchase a new Blue stylus, put that into my other deck and put the old Blue stylus into this Red cartridge body. As it is now though, I really enjoy the Stanton as it really has a sound to it that is hard to duplicate. Personality and character, traits this Red can't possess. Oh well, I now know.

I've been wanting to try the Ortofon 2M line for a couple of years now. I was waiting for price drops since I had a decent Shure M91ED cartridge. That cartridge finally kicked the bucket a few weeks ago. I came across this open box Ortofon 2M Red from Audio-Exchange for only $85! I instantly bought it when I came upon the sale post. I couldn't be happier, this cartridge has blown away any vintage Shure or Grado cartridge I've used in the past. I can't believe the amount of deaths this cartridge produces. Crisp highs, deep lows, this cartridge provides a full acoustic range. I'm using this cartridge on an early 1980's Pioneer direct drive turntable, ran through an Onkyo Integra preamp and out through a McIntosh MC-30 tube amp and Crown D-150 solid state. Speakers are Snell Type E on the McIntosh and Bose 301 Series III on the Crown. This has made for a perfect setup and I absolutely love listening to my vinyl every time with the Ortofon cartridge. Audio-Exchange has been absolutely wonderful to purchase from and I highly recommend them for your audio needs!
