VM95: conical or elliptical

AT-VM95C uses AT-VMN95C. AT-VM95E uses AT-VMN95E. VM95 C, E, EN, ML and SH styli are for ordinary 33⅓/45 rpm microgroove records. AT-VMN95SP is for wide-groove 78 rpm shellac, not ordinary LPs or 45s. VM95 styli can fit the same body, but must be selected for the record format.

Do not confuse VM95 with the older AT95E/AT95EX or VM500/700 cartridges.

P-mount: match the exact model

AT81CP takes the ATN81CP conical stylus. AT85EP takes the ATN85EP elliptical stylus.

These are P-mount/T4P cartridges. A VM95 stylus is not the replacement for either.

Sound Burger and LP60/LP60X

ATN3600LC replaces the factory stylus on the AT-SB727 Sound Burger and AT-LP60/LP60X series. It belongs to the AT3600L family.

The LP70X uses a fixed-body VM95C instead: replace its stylus with a suitable VM95 assembly, not a complete cartridge kit.

Start with the cartridge model, not its colour

VM95, VM/VMx, P-mount and AT3600 are separate stylus families. If you have changed the cartridge on your turntable, the factory specification may no longer apply. Send us the cartridge model or a clear photo before ordering.

Choosing a turntable

Automatic models handle more of the playback process for you; manual models leave cueing and return in your hands. Check the drive type, included cartridge and phono-stage requirements against your system.

Cartridge or replacement stylus?

A complete cartridge replaces the body as well as the stylus assembly. A replacement stylus fits a specific compatible cartridge. Check mounting, cartridge family and phono-stage requirements before choosing.

Headphones and everyday care

Choose wired or wireless headphones to suit your listening source. Brushes, stylus cleaners and setup accessories can help maintain your vinyl system; check the product instructions before use.

Audio-Technica shopping questions

How do I find the right Audio-Technica replacement stylus?

Identify the exact cartridge model first, then check the compatible models listed on the replacement stylus page. The turntable name alone may not be enough if its cartridge has been changed. Send us the model number or ask for help if you are unsure.

Is a cartridge with a headshell ready to use on any turntable?

No. A headshell combination still needs a compatible tonearm connector, supported cartridge weight and correct setup. Tracking force, alignment and anti-skate should be checked before playback.

Do I need a phono preamp?

It depends on the turntable and the input you are connecting it to. Some models include a switchable phono preamp; others need a separate phono stage or a suitable amplifier phono input. Check the individual model and whether the cartridge requires MM or MC support.

What is the difference between automatic and manual turntables?

Fully automatic models handle starting and returning the tonearm. Fully manual models leave those steps to you. Semi-automatic functions vary by model, so check the product page for exactly what happens at the end of a record.

Can I see products that are currently in stock?

Yes. Use the Availability filter in the catalogue. In stock, available to order, backorder and out-of-stock statuses are shown separately when applicable. Open-box items are identified on their product cards.
