Choosing Ortofon cartridges and replacement styli

A complete cartridge

Choose a complete cartridge when changing cartridge families or replacing the body. Explore standard 2M, low-profile 2MR, Concorde Music and OM models, or compare MC X, Quintet, Cadenza and flagship moving coil cartridges.

A replacement stylus

A replacement stylus renews the stylus assembly on a compatible cartridge body. Identify the exact family and model first; matching colours across ranges do not establish compatibility. Each product page explains the supported cartridge bodies.

Check your system first

Confirm the mounting format, cartridge height and supported weight, then check whether your phono stage supports MM or low-output MC. Premounted and integrated designs still need a compatible tonearm.

Ask about compatibility

Ortofon cartridge and stylus FAQs

Are Ortofon styli interchangeable?

Compatibility is family- and model-specific. 2M, OM and Concorde Music replacement styli are separate systems, and colour alone is not a fit guide. Use the compatibility section on the individual product page before ordering a replacement or upgrade.

Is the Ortofon 2M Blue MM or MC?

The Ortofon 2M Blue is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge and needs a suitable MM phono input. Low-output moving coil models in MC X, Quintet and Cadenza need appropriate MC gain and loading. For an MM upgrade comparison, read our 2M Red vs Blue guide.

What is the difference between 2M and 2MR?

2MR uses a lower-profile body to help with tonearms that have limited height clearance. It is not a universal fit: confirm the exact tonearm, mounting and cartridge requirements on the product page before choosing.

How long does an Ortofon stylus last?

Ortofon gives a guideline of up to 1,000 listening hours with proper care. This is not a guaranteed replacement interval: cleanliness, correct setup and use affect wear. See Ortofon’s stylus-care guidance and seek advice if performance changes.

How do Ortofon special orders work?

Products marked Special order are ordered for you rather than held as regular shelf stock. Typical turnaround is 3–5 business days, subject to manufacturer availability. You can order from the product page; contact us if you need a confirmed date.
